School Food Project and Burlington Food Council
The
Burlington
School Food Project (BSFP) is a citywide collaborative formed
to address the integration
of local foods into school meals and food insecurity among
school aged children in Burlington, Vermont. Partners in the BSFP
include the Burlington Legacy Project, Shelburne Farms, VT FEED, NOFA
VT, the Intervale Center, the Burlington School District Food Service,
City Market/Onion River Co-op, and Healthy City Youth Farm. The
BSFP carries out its food, farming, and nutrition activities with
direction from the Burlington Food Council, an open community group
dedicated to the work of the BSFP. Please visit the Burlington
Food Council page for more information, meeting minutes, and
project history.
- No
Idling Campaign
Legacy
launched its No Idling Campaign in April 2007 with public outreach,
education, and policy advocacy efforts to reduce unnecessary vehicle
idling as a way to improve air quality and overall quality of life for
everyone who lives, works, and plays in Burlington. Visit the No
Idling Campaign page for details, and how you can get
involved. Remember - you
hold the key to an idle-free Burlington!
- Energy and
Environmental Coordinating Committee (E2C2)
Legacy
staffs and supports the E2C2, a committee convened by the Mayor under
charge from the Burlington City Council. E2C2 is tasked with
researching ways the City of Burlington can reduce its emissions and
general carbon footprint, and improve our energy and environmental
management practices, policies, procedures, and operations. Visit
the E2C2 webpage for
details, meeting minutes, and more information on this committee.

- Social Equity
Investment Project (SEIP)
The
mission of the Social Equity Investment Project (SEIP) is to identify
and support leadership in the Burlington community in order to
facilitate sustainable and effective social change. SEIP does
this through leadership development, social equity focus groups, the
development of a coordination and influence network, financial
development, and general education and awareness of social equity
issues as Burlington moves beyond a crossroads of cultural and social
shifting and growth. Visit the SEIP page
for more project details and updates as they become available!

Climate Action Plan
It was
eight years ago, in 2000, that the City of Burlington adopted its first
Climate Action Plan in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and
alleviate the effects of climate change. While the City continues to
make in-roads in reducing its energy use and greenhouse gas emissions,
many of our efforts are not adequately captured and recommended actions
are often left unimplemented. An update of the City's Climate Action
Plan has begun this past winter and will take place over the next
several months.
